Senior Data and Governance Officer

On behalf of our client, we are seeking to Senior Data & Governance Officer to join their Belfast based offices.

Reporting to the HR Manager, the Data and Governance officer will manage and mitigate the organisation’s data protection compliance risk, recommending and implementing strategic improvements to policy, systems and reporting, including continuous improvement.


·Level six qualification (e.g. Bachelor’s Degree) or above plus 2 years’ (gained in the last 6 years’) experience in a governance / regulation role or similar. OR4 years’ (gained in the last 10 years’) experience of governance / quality / equality /regulation and legislation.


·Demonstrable knowledge and commitment to achieving high standards of governance in accordance with regulations, to include data protection and GDPR legislation and development of policies and procedures relating to data protection.


·Strong background in interpreting, applying and providing complex expert advice on legislation, governance / quality / equality / regulation and devising, implementing and monitoring Data Protection policies and procedures.


·Demonstrate experience in auditing routines, an understanding of risk management principles and managing information risk.


·Strong communication skills, capable of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders, and the ability to translate thinking clearly to others, including demonstrable skills in document / report writing / dissemination.

·Eligible to work in the UK.

Duties include:

·Foster and embed a willing culture of information compliance in order to deliver the

·Association’s commitment to data protection and equality of opportunity.

·Responsible for informing and advising the organisation and its employees about their obligations to comply with relevant legislation.

·Act as the first point of contact for departmental champions and for data subjects, forming collaborative relationships with operational managers, to ensure a harmonised approach to data protection and equality, providing appropriate advice and guidance.

·Review and report on the organisation’s compliance against its policies.

·Lead on the management of personal data.

·Review and manage quality and content of data held.

·Maintain information systems to ensure information is dependable and robust.

·Deliver an effective and compliant records management service, as part of a

modern and customer focused service and foster a culture of this across the


·Assist with the development of strategies and subsequent implementation of an organisation wide GDPR and data privacy compliance programme.

·Embed structures and processes to ensure risks and compliance issues are

identified, escalated, monitored and mitigated effectively.

·Monitor compliance with all relevant data protection and equality legislation

through undertaking a programme of internal audits.

·Lead necessary investigations and responses for all potential and actual data

security breaches and potential and actual breaches of confidentiality.


This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading not for profit organisation in Northern Ireland and offers a competitive starting salary of £32,910 based on a 37 hour week, as well as a great range of benefits.
