School Projects Officer

On behalf of our client, a Northern Ireland base Charity, we are seeking to recruit a School Projects Officer for a part time role- 19.5 hours per week covering Northern Ireland. This will be a permanent contract but working during term time only- 38 weeks per year.

The role will be based out of the Belfast office and it is anticipated Fridays (8.45am to 1.30pm) will be spent in the office carrying out administrative tasks however Wednesday and Thursday (8.45am to 5pm) will cover the area including Coleraine, Mid-Ulster and Antrim.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the School Projects Officer will be responsible for sourcing and signing up schools to participate in events and fundraising for the charity within a designated area. The Project Officer will also give age-appropriate talks to pupils of both primary and secondary age educating them about multiple sclerosis, the charity and its work and the Walk for MS.

Main responsibilities

  1. Source and sign up schools to participate in the Walk for MS within a designated area, by face-to-face contact, including attending at schools and meeting with relevant school staff. You will be required to ‘cold call’ i.e. make unscheduled visits to schools with a view to meeting with the principal or charity coordinator while you are there.
  2. Give an age-appropriate talk to pupils of both primary and secondary age educating them about multiple sclerosis, the charity and its work and the Walk for MS.
  3. Liaise with the Departmental Secretary regarding the administration and organisation of the walk.
  4. Participate in walks as and when required.
  5. Maintain paperwork and keep detailed records as required.
  6. Ensure that the school understands the requisite paperwork and that it is returned to the Departmental Secretary after each walk.
  7. Attend awards presentations and participate in any PR opportunities.
  8. Attend the annual Awards Luncheon, assisting with various duties as required.
  9. Meet predetermined fund-raising targets.
  10. Any other duties as required to include attending other Action MS fundraising events as required.

Applicants will need to demonstrate:

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent is desirable however applicants must have GCSE English and Maths Grade A-C (or equivalent) and 2 ‘A’ Levels in any subjects.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a sales representative role which involves securing new business and maintaining client relationships

or

Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a charity fundraising role which involves securing new fundraising initiatives and maintaining relationships with existing fundraisers.

  • Experience of working to and successfully meeting targets.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office in particular use of Outlook (email and diary management) and Excel (spreadsheet / database).
  • Hold a full current driving licence, valid in the UK, and have access to a car at the closing date for work purposes.

If you have declared that you have a disability which debars you from driving, it is essential to have access to a form of transport which will permit you to carry out the duties of the post in full.

  • Experience of teaching or otherwise working and communicating with groups of school age children is desirable however the ability to communicate effectively with children is necessary.

·Engage and build a rapport with school secretaries in the first instance.

·Communicate appropriately and professionally with school representatives e.g. principal, charity co-ordinator and to engage them in conversation about the Action MS Walk for MS.

·Present an appropriate sales pitch to the principal / charity co-ordinator in respect of the Action MS Walk for MS.

·Communicate effectively with children.

·Close the deal and get schools signed up for the Walk for MS.

 

The successful applicant can expect a salary around £21,000 pro rata per annum (negotiable). Please note this post is term time only (38 weeks per year).

Hours: 19.75 hours per week – Wed / Thur (8.45am to 5pm) and Fri (8.45am to 1.30pm)
